【Storm Coat】
This beautiful coat was worn by British Army dispatch riders during World War II.【 Garment specimen 】 |
An indomitable masterpiece that has been reproduced by many designers.
It is the British Army Storm Coat.
The official name of this coat is "Dispatch rider coat".
It is also often referred to as a "Motocycle coat" and as the name suggests, it was worn by the British Army's motorcycle unit.
It is also known as a "Storm coat" because it is designed to withstand inclement weather.
In Demi Deconstruction, the name Storm coat will be used to introduce the product.
The Storm Coat is a coat, but it is not a coat.
In fact, it has a gimmick that transforms it into Coveralls.
As shown in the photo above, the hem of the coat transforms into trousers.
The trousers prevent the hem of the coat from flapping, allowing you to ride your motorcycle in comfort.
Beautiful appearance and well thought-out details.
It is a supreme piece of clothing for the British Army that combines design and function.
Although there are many parts, the difficulty level is not high because it is composed of straight stitches.
Even a beginner in dressmaking will be able to complete it if he or she puts his or her mind to it.
The Storm Coat is designed to have a larger bust circumference.
It is a cool coat to wear loosely, with the shoulders slightly slouched.
You should choose your size based on your bust measurement.
As a reference, choose +7.9 in (20 cm) from your nude bust measurement for a perfect fit.
Example: If your nude bust measurement is 40in (101.5cm), 47.9in (121.5cm) is the perfect size.
Therefore, you should choose size 3.
Size 4 would be a good choice if worn loosely.
Even in a size 4, it does not look sloppy and can be worn well.

The three photos above are all made of wool flannel.
The thickness of the material greatly changes the "drape expression" of the back style.
The beautiful drape that appears when the belt is fastened is another charm of the Storm Coat.
Please refer to it and try sewing.
English subtitle commentary is provided.

The two videos below provide a more detailed look at what Stormcoat has to offer.
They are in Japanese, but if you are interested, please take a look.
I have compiled many original photos on Google Photos.
Please use them to check details, etc.
The square-shaped pocket attached to the chest is commonly known as a "map pocket.
As the name suggests, it is a perfect square to fit the shape of a folded "map.
It is also tilted at an angle for easy insertion.
Storm coats originally have no buttons to fasten the front.
Instead, it has two belts with buckles.
Depending on your ideas, you will be able to arrange the coat in various ways.
Just by changing the way the belt is fastened, you can create a mode atmosphere.
The above is an arrangement with buttons and a buttonhole at the collar end.
With this simple arrangement, you can wear it like a stand collar.
This is my recommended arrangement method.
Storm coats are designed with compact cuffs.
It has multiple tucks and darts to fit the wrist.
The reason for this is to make "gauntlet gloves" that cover the entire cuff of the coat.

The Storm coat's compact cuffs fit snugly into the glove.
I hope that many people will wear the Storm Coat.
It is a beautiful coat with excellent functional beauty.
Although it has many parts, it is not difficult to sew because it is linear.
Please try making it while watching the sewing video.
We sincerely support everyone's challenge.
